A simple cross character in Chinese means
"ten," and looks like.
This knot is tied and looks like a cross
on one side. On the other side, the cords make a square pattern. See illustrations 4 &5 for the finished form
front and back. This knot has also been called the Japanese square knot or Oriental square knot. It is one of the
basics of Chinese decorative knotting.
It can be used as a simple recognition
knot like the friendship knot and can be worn on a pocket button. The length of the loop can be made to sufficiently
long to accommodate a bead or two by slipping the loop through the beads. These beads may be used to mark specific
activities or accomplishment.
The knot takes its shape as two
"s" curves that weave their way into each other to form the body of the knot. It is a stable knot, and will
hold its shape after a minimum of tightening. Simply follow the illustrations below.
It can be tied in multiples for decorative
ideas and to represent various levels of achievement as well.
